Partial drainage – Partial drainage

Partial drainage of a palustrine or lacustrine wetland may decrease wetland extent and/or depth which may alter water persistence. In some cases, partial drainage of a lacustrine system may decrease wetland extent and depth to such a degree that the wetland is converted to a palustrine wetland system. Complete drainage results in the loss of a wetland.

Applicable Wetland Habitat Hydrological Modification:

  • 'Modified – partial drainage – freshwater wetland with system change' (H2-M9-a)
  • 'Modified – partial drainage – freshwater wetland with no system change' (H2-M9-b)
