Program start dateThe first water level reading on record was from gauge number 401 taken in 1800 (gauge board reading). The first water level reading for a departmental bore was from bore number RN 14320643 taken on 5 April 1901. Program end dateOngoing Objectives of the programThe program aims to provide:

Scale of programStatewide Brief description of sampling locationsThe Groundwater Water Level Network consists of 4230 groundwater bores across Queensland. Frequency of monitoringDifferent sites in the Groundwater Water Level Network are monitored monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly. However, some are monitored more frequently depending on local conditions and needs. There are 95 bores that are continuously monitored for water level, and 33 of these are currently accessed by remote telemetry to download near-real-time data onto a web server. An additional 23 bores are intended to be upgraded with remote telemetry. Where is the program reported? The Groundwater Water Level Network is typically used for baseline data for a range of projects, including coal seam gas development and other mining activities. Groundwater levels are also reported as part of the State of the Environment Report.
