Buderim Ginger is developing and implementing a Farm Management System (FMS) to manage soil, nutrients, irrigation and weeds to minimise impacts on local wetlands.
Better irrigation and nutrient management has reduced the amount of fertiliser used and increases productivity. Maintaining riparian vegetation benefits horticulturists by providing buffers and bank stability as well as improving crop performance.
Tensiometers can be used measure soil moisture and allow irrigation to be tailored to the needs of the crop, saving water while reducing nutrient losses that can result from over watering.
