Modifications

The study areas layer used by WetlandSummary is based on the source layers below, with the following modifications:

  • Name is looked up from a separate file based on the source layer
  • Transformed coordinate system of Cairns_Urban_WTL_Area.shp from UTM GDA_1994_MGA_Zone_55 to geodetic EPSG:GDA94
  • Fixed 1 invalid geometry
  • Combined features and attributes from 3 source layers
  • Dissolved 63 source features into 3 study areas
  • Excluded source field JOIN_ID because it has no values
  • Excluded source field ID because it has no values
  • Excluded source field Comments because it has too many different dissolved values (text length 468 > 254)
  • Excluded source field MANCAT_are because it has no values
  • Excluded source field sc because it has too many different dissolved values (text length 893 > 254)

Subsections used for the assessment of the Aquatic Conservation Values (ACA) for non-riverine and riverine wetlands of the Wide Bay – Burnett Catchments using the Aquatic Biodiversity Assessment and Mapping Methodology (AquaBAMM)

Resource purpose/summary
DERM has developed a new and novel method to assess conservation values of wetlands in Queensland called the Aquatic Biodiversity Assessment and Mapping Method (AquaBAMM). This comprehensive method identifies relative wetland conservation values within a specified study area. The method is used to produce an Aquatic Conservation Assessment (ACA) of wetlands using available data including data resulting from expert opinion. AquaBAMM is a powerful decision support tool that is easily updated and simply interrogated through a geographic information system (GIS). ACA results contribute to the baseline ecological information available to support natural resource management and planning processes. An ACA can have application in: determining priorities for protection or rehabilitation of aquatic ecosystems; on-ground investment in aquatic ecosystems; contributing to impact assessment of large-scale development (e.g. dams); and water resource and strategic regional planning processes.

For SOR subsections, the positional accuracy of the subsection data mapped at a scale of 1:100 000 is +/-100 metres. The positional accuracy of the subsection data mapped at a scale of 1:50 000 scale with a positional accuracy of +/-50 metres. See the relevant State of the Rivers reports for more details. The RiverTools subsection modelling is dependent on the 25m NRM Digital Elevation Models which were derived from the 1:100,000 contour and point point data. The positional accuracy of the subsection boundaries mapped by RiverTools should be considered as +/-100 metres. NB: Consideration of the effects of mapped scale is necessary when interpreting data at a larger scale, (eg: 1:25,000). For property assessment, digital linework should be used as a guide only.
