The Queensland Wetlands Program (the Program) provides a suite of integrated tools across the wetland management spectrum from policy and assessment through on-ground management to monitoring and communication. All these tools are freely available through WetlandInfo—the first-stop-shop for wetland management resources in Queensland.

Please note the content presented is based on current knowledge of biopassage designs. Many of the biopassage systems described have not been trialled in different regions in Queensland. Please note that biopassage systems (fishways) built prior to 2014 are different to current standards. The information will be updated as new trials are conducted and effectiveness is monitored. If you have any additional information on biopassage designs or suggestions for additional technologies, please contact us using the feedback link at the bottom of this page.

Biopassage includes fish passage (using structures such as fishways, fish ladders, fish-friendly culverts), turtle passage (e.g. turtleway) and eel passage (e.g. elver passes or eel passes). Turtleways and elver/eel passes are considered emerging technologies for the purposes of these webpages.

A range of legislation and approvals may be required for construction, particularly under the Fisheries Act. Contact local and state government at the very begining of the project before any construction or planning is undertaken to understand requirements.
