Summary

The project aims to engage trained SCUBA volunteers to undertake 22 reef health monitoring surveys. Four collaborative underwater and coastal clean-ups will also be conducted with all data supplied to Tangaroa Blue.

Benefits

The project fills gaps in community knowledge and action on marine monitoring and clean-ups. While coastal clean-ups can demonstrate rubbish that is being left or washed up on beaches, trained volunteer divers are able to monitor and remove debris under the water that is often ‘out of sight, out of mind’ and help gauge communities to address the issue on land.
