Description
Eucryphia wilkiei is a shrub growing 3-4m tall and has a dense rounded crown. The leaves are arranged opposite along the stems and are either in one piece or composed of 2-3 leaflets (rarely 5), on stalks 5mm long. The leaves are elliptic-oblong to lance-shaped, 19-43mm long and 3-12mm wide. Young leaves are covered in silky hairs. Mature leaves are glossy green above with a depressed mid-vein and the venation on the underside is distinctly visible.
The flowers grow on stalks to 10mm long, arising from where a leaf joins the stem. The flowers have four broadly ovate-shaped petals, each is 12-15mm long with a round tip. The outer parts surrounding the base of the flower are overlapping, the outer two sepals densely woolly. The woody seed capsules are about 10mm long and have 7-9 valves which are hairy on the back. The seeds are shiny dark brown and 3.5mm long by 1.5mm wide. (Forster & Hyland 1997; DEWHA 2008)
