Description
Eucalyptus pachycalyx subsp. waajensis is a tree growing up to 10m in height. The trunk and branches are covered in a smooth glossy bark that has a mottled appearance with grey, reddish-grey, or in some seasons, bright orange and yellow patches. Juvenile leaves are broadly lance-shaped and up to 15cm long by 5.5cm wide. The light green adult leaves are dull to slightly glossy, sickle or lance-shaped and 5-12cm long by 1-2.2cm wide.
The cream flowers are grouped into clusters of about 7-11 flowers. The flowers arise from the angle between the leaf and the stem. Each cluster is at the end of a slender stalk measuring up to 1.6cm long. Mature flower buds are egg-shaped to almost spherical and have a hemispherical cap. The seed capsules are cup-shaped and 5-6mm long by 6-7mm in diameter. The valves of the seed chambers extend above the body of the seed capsule. The seeds are grey-brown coloured and disc-like in shape. (Brooker & Kleinig 1994; Halford 1997)
