Acacia baueri subsp. baueri is found on infertile and often seasonally waterlogged sands in coastal heath (wallum) habitat and adjacent plateaus and low open woodland. (Herbrecs 2008; Kodela 2008)

Acacia baueri subsp. baueri is an erect shrub growing to 50cm tall. The branchlets are cylindrical in cross section, hairless or with sparse white hairs and rarely with small wart-like projections. The enlarged section of the stalk is 0.4-0.6mm long. There are 6-8 phyllodes (enlarged part of the leaf stalk taking the form of a leaf) arranged in a circle around the stem. The leaf arrangements are spaced 0.5-2cm apart along the stem. These are straight or recurved in the upper half and measure 0.7-1.6cm long by 0.05-0.1cm wide. They have a longitudinal nerve on each side, are smooth or occasionally have wart-like projections, and are hairless or occasionally with scattered white hairs similar to those on the branchlets.
A. baueri subsp. baueri has heads of 10-15 small yellow flowers on stalks 5-15mm long, with fine hairs at the end of the stalk. Seed pods are long and narrow, measuring 2.5cm long by 0.2-0.3cm wide. They have no stalk, are hairless or have extremely sparse hairs mainly at the base. Seeds are more or less cylindric lengthwise and measure 4-5.5mm by 2-2.5mm. (Maslin et al. 2001; World Wide Wattle 2006; Kodela 2008)

Little is known on the reproductive biology of Acacia baueri subsp. baueri. It is probably similar to A. baueri, flowering between September and June.
